WELCOME
to the CATHEDRAL FIG TREE. This is one of the strangler fig variety
that grows over a host tree and puts down ariel roots to form wonderful
and interesting shapes. This tree is located on the Atherton Tablelands
in the Cairns hinterland and is typical of the rich and diverse
variety of plant and animal species to be found in the World Heritage
Rainforest. Our panorama was taken from inside the tree.
WHILE
THE PANORAMA IS LOADING (usually about a minute) have a look
at the external photo of the tree and the rainforest pigeon (The
White Headed Pigeon) to be found nearby. This is a popular spot
to witness the dawn chorus of bird calls. You will hear the Whip
Bird, Jungle Fowl, Cat Bird, Rifle Bird, Wompoo Pigeon, Sulphur
Crested Cockatoo, Lewin’s Honeyeater, Scrub Wren, Log Runner and
many more.
FARMSTAYS
AND B&B’s are a popular way to stay on the Tablelands and see
the sights.
