YOU are above the northern end of Abbott Street, between Florence and Minnie Streets. This is the Hotel Precinct at the northern end of the Esplanade. Hotels such as TRADEWINDS, HOLIDAY INN and THE OASIS are all excellent facilities, close to town. The Esplanade has a walking path going from the CBD past the hotels and on to north Cairns. This is a very popular spot for the locals in the early morning and late afternoon. For bird watchers, pelicans and other waders can often be seen on the foreshore. You’ll find the RSL (with air conditioning and cold beer) on the corner of Florence Street and the Esplanade. Most of the hotels have a pleasant bar and a sea breeze for those lazy afternoons after a hard day at the Great Barrier Reef. Restaurants, to cater for all tastes can also be found along the Esplanade towards the city, starting at the All Seasons. These are all within walking distance. Popular spots such as Villa Romana have an outdoor dining area and is a great place for dining in the tropics.
